Biography

Hello Parents, Kids, and Members of the Liggett Street Community,

I have been a teacher at Liggett Street Elementary School since 1994--over 25 years.  It is an honor to be a teacher in a public school where all children are accepted and are treated fairly.  It brings me great joy when parents feel proud of their children because their children are studying hard and are learning.  And Liggett is an amazing school.  Go Lions!

I was born in New York City over 57 years ago.  My family moved to San Diego where we (my older sister, two older brothers, and I) grew up.  My parents were great people who taught me the values of being fair to others, being honest,  and helping other people in order to make the world a better place.  They taught me the value of a good education--and the importance of reading every day.  My parents are my heroes.

My sister, my two brothers, and I all went to San Diego State University where by father was a professor.  I studied history in college and worked as a Teacher's Assistant at two San Diego-area high schools.  Being a teacher's assistant was a great learning experience.

Over the years I have had the great good fortune to meet many interesting, kind, and intelligent people.   I have learned a great deal from other people, from books, and from my travels.  I have great memories of my travels to New York City, Guatemala, Mexico, Spain, and Argentina.  Buenos Aires, Argentina, the city of tango, Boca Juniors soccer, the great outdoor market at San Telmo (every Sunday), and the best pizza in life is my favorite city in my favorite country (next to the USA of course).

English is my first and best language; Spanish  my second language, but it is my favorite.  (El espanol es muy hermoso.)  My favorite teams are the Los Angeles Clippers (NBA), the Los Angeles Chargers(NFL), the San Diego Padres (Major League Baseball), and in college sports, the San Diego State Aztecs in both basketball and football. (A bim, a bah, a bim boom bah, AZTECA, AZTECA, rah, rah, rah!)

Life has mostly been good, and most of the credit goes to my parents, my family, and kind people who have helped me throughout life.

I believe strongly in education--and people should use their education to help others.  On an important public building in  downtown San Diego the following words are displayed on the west wall, "The noblest motive is the public good."   These are words to live by.

To my students, please be sure to read every day.  Who knows, you may even learn to like reading if you try it every day.  And please listen to your parents.
